CMYK vs Spot Color: what every bakery brand should know

Understand the difference between CMYK and spot color in packaging printing.

2026-05-08

When you print packaging, the colors you see on screen aren't always the colors that end up on the box. Understanding how CMYK and spot colors work helps you set the right expectations and keep your brand colors consistent across every order.

CMYK vs Spot Color

CMYK mixes cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks to reproduce a wide range of colors, making it ideal for full-color artwork and photos. Spot colors are pre-mixed inks (such as Pantone) that deliver one exact, consistent shade every time — the best choice for logos and brand colors that must match perfectly. Keep in mind that RGB is for screens only; always supply CMYK or spot color files for accurate print results.
